This piece is all played on the D string, using two notes — D and E.
Pluck your open D string a few times and listen to the sound.
Now place your pointer finger (first finger) on your first finger mark on the D string. This is the note E. Press down firmly and pluck a few times to hear the note. If it doesn’t ring clearly, make sure your finger is firmly pressed down.
Practice putting your finger down on E, lifting it up and putting it down again over and over. Keep your finger curved and try to lift just off the string so it stays in a ready position.
Listen to the video below and follow along with the notes. Keep it steady and point at each note as it’s played (E, E, E… D, D, D etc).
Take note of the rests! Each time you see a rest, say “ssh”. We don’t play, pluck or make sounds in a rest.
Once you’ve done this a couple of times, sing the notes with the accompaniment. The goal is to drill the tune into your memory, which will make playing it much easier.
