The musical alphabet has seven letters. A, B, C, D, E, F and G. It goes around in a circle, so when you get to G, it starts again from A (not H!).
Sometimes there are notes that fit in between the letters. These are called “sharps” or “flats”. For example, “C sharp” is just a little bit higher pitch than “C”, and “B flat” is a little lower than B.
Do-Re-Mi
The 1965 musical “sound of music” featured a fun take on the musical scale. They sing in “solfa” or “solfège” (do re mi fa sol la ti do).
This is called “Solfa” or “Solfége”. We use this in classes and you can learn more about it here.
